Richard Bence is Travel Editor at Attitude, Britain’s best-selling gay magazine. Here he guest-blogs about Toronto’s newest kid on the block.
“Having always written off Canada as a vanilla nation I felt it was time to educate myself and see if there was any truth to Toronto’s ‘Manhattan Lite’ reputation. So off I went to check out one of its most-anticipated new openings. King West’s new hotel is the first international location for the Thomspon group, which has design-driven hotels in nine American cities. Slap bang in the trendy fashion and design neighbourhood, it’s the killer views of Toronto’s skyline with that famous CN Tower from the rooftop pool and bar that make this the best place to stay in town. Make sure you visit the quirky West Queen West retail and dining strip, where Torontonians hang out at artsy hotels Drake, with its groovy Sky yard, and Gladstone with an eccentric, bohemian crowd. Turns out Toronto’s not so vanilla after all.”
