The Dylan, Keizersgracht 384, Canal Belt

Rates: €295 – €1,700
Though it’s a limited compliment, Paris Hilton chose the Dylan over her own family’s hotel when visiting the Netherlands in 2009. Built in the 17th century as one of the city’s first theatres, the Dylan is considered one of the most luxurious hotels in the city, breathing the decadence of Amsterdam’s Golden Age. Its little courtyard, beamed ceilings, stunning interior and peaceful garden combine for a restful stay. The rooms are not all as spacious as you might expect, though, and only the suites go over 40m². With its central location on one of the city’s fancier canals, you have the Jordaan and the lovely nine streets within a 10-minute walk. You’re there even quicker if you use one of the Dylan’s black bikes. And for a more sedate means of transport, the hotel calls in their own captain, Tommy, to run guests around on an antique (and private) saloon boat. Make sure to book a room on the canal side for the best views.
