Drama Queen / Hg2 MUST-VISIT

As the former home of the Lambs Club – America’s first and most renowned theatre club – the recently opened Chatwal makes a dramatic entrance indeed on New York‘s ever-changing hotel scene. Architect Thierry Despont has been respectful in his restoration of the Standford White-designed landmark building, with interiors that combine the glamour of 20th century travel with Art Deco features to create a space that is oh-so New York. While there are 85 suitably dramatic rooms to choose from, we suggest checking in to the 4,500-square-foot Barrymore Suite; it is here that actress Drew Barrymore has given her name (due to her family’s long association with the building), and the penthouse includes four well-appointed ensuite guestrooms and a 1,000-square-foot heated outdoor terrace. Indeed, if this space isn’t suitable for a superstar we really don’t know what is. Wrapping things up nicely is a restaurant, bar and spa, all of which can be enjoyed without stepping foot outside of the hotel.
