Prop Up The Mini Bar / REVIEW PREVIEW

Mini Bar, Prinsengracht 478, Canal Belt
Tel: +31 20 422 1935
A kooky concept this – a bar with no bar staff, where you never have to wait for service. Arrive at Mini Bar and the concierge will give your group a key to its own fridge full of alcoholic goodies – beer, wine, bubbles and spirits. You help yourself and settle up at the end of the night. The prices are a tad higher than usual, but not obscene (€3.50 for a 33cl bottle of Heineken). There are also beer-only and Champagne-only fridges, which have a greater selection of hops and fizz accordingly. There are bar snacks too, and a sushi menu. Music tends to be well-considered funky house mixes, and the decor is suitably slick – lots of varnished pine and brown leather seating. It’s a novelty concept, but one that works and is popular. It’s usually worth booking a fridge in advance, particularly at the weekend.
