Café Culture / NEWS HUNGRY

Remember sipping a coffee blacker than a banker’s suit and nibbling at something sweet in a pavement café whilst the London summer sun warmed your skin? Come on, it wasn’t that long ago, although you may be forgiven for thinking it was as you shuddered down a snowy street today, aching to go indoors. Still, D&D London – which owns 30 restaurants around the world – can’t be accused of letting the wintry conditions freeze their ambitious plans to develop a new outdoor café at the grade 1-listed Royal Exchange in the City. Set to open in the summer of 2011, Hg2 has learned that the fashionable new venue will be able to serve around 100 covers as well as offering food to take-away. Aiming to offer something different to the existing Royal Exchange Café, we can’t wait to welcome back afternoons of al-fresco dining.
