Chinese New Year / Hg2 MUST-EAT

With over 1,000 reservation requests every day, Hakkasan Mayfair is fast becoming London’s hottest hangout. Following in the fabulous footsteps of its famous sibling near Tottenham Court Road, which opened a decade ago in 2001, the legendary restaurant has finally thrown open the doors of a second outpost in posh Mayfair. Rather than a secreted away location down an alleyway, however, the new Hakkasan is found opposite a slew of not-so-subtle designer shops at 17 Bruton Street with large, fishtank-like windows overlooking the street; those who want to replicate the dark, decadent feel of the first restaurant can, of course, in a sexy basement setting downstairs. It is here the same clubby vibe as the original abounds, while waitresses strut about in the same Diane Von Furstenberg dresses as ogled at the first restaurant; the menu is similar, too – if not with a few welcome addictions and sorely missed subtractions – with high-end Cantonese cuisine washed down with impossibly chic cocktails. And as you’d expect for this part of the capital, the clientele is razor-thin and designer-clad, making for a very sophisticated dining experience indeed.
