Laying Down Roots / Hg2 MUST-EAT

Named after William Donaldson – the rock ‘n’ roll music promoter and satirist otherwise known as Henry Root – this new Park Walk venue is sure to become the toast of West Brompton. Recently opened by Truffle Hunting – founded by none other than Nigel Sutcliffe of The Fat Duck, James Mclean of the Princess Victoria and Jerome Armit of The Bush Bar & Grill – The Henry Root restaurant and wine bar is decked out in 80s memorabilia and is supported by a bulging wine menu (with most available by the glass, carafe and bottle).  The food itself, meanwhile, has been created by head chef Sang Nguyen, who has devised a sharing menu of charcuterie and potted meats; the potted black pudding is a particular highlight. Certain to attract West London’s intelligentsia, who’ll undoubtedly flock to chat and chow down, Hg2 has high hopes indeed for this breath of fresh air in an otherwise largely unimaginative corner of London.
