Something Fishy / Hg2 MUST-EAT

Opening this month in London‘s Spitalfields is Poppies, a chippie for a new style-conscious generation. Run by legendary Pat Newland – who began his career at Phil’s on the Roman Road aged 14 – the restaurant will seat fifty boisterous Brits amid fabulous 1950s-inspired surroundings. The food itself will be some of the best fish in the capital, with fresh, sustainable produce delivered every day from a renowned third-generation supplier in Billingsgate. The chips will be exceptional, too, with everything peeled and handcut on-site from British-farmed maris piper potatoes courtesy of a fourth-generation family business. And with everything seasoned with lashings of Sarson’s and wrapped in Poppies’ very own newsprint, this really is fish and chips with soul.
