Love You Long-Haul / HG2 MUST-VISIT

We’re not quite clear of January and 14th February might still be a couple of weeks away, but you’ll need a bit of time to get this particular show on the road. Forget chocolate boxes (murder on the hips, darling), flowers (dead in a week) or romantic meals out (prices triple and the place is packed): for the hedonistic traveller set on the ultimate romantic gesture, it’s at Langham Place in Hong Kong where Cupid reigns supreme. The hotel is offering an array of lavish indulgences, ranging from dinner under the stars to a tour of chocolate for suitors and sweethearts. Love lifts us up where we belong, or so the song tells us, and if you want to feel as though your head is in the clouds, you can wine and dine in the Star Room, located on the 42nd floor with panoramic city views. Alternatively, you can treat your Valentine to an outdoor candle-lit European banquet, with a six-course menu including Hokkaido scallops, Alaskan king crab, Australian lobster and Black Angus tenderloin. And since Valentine’s Day wouldn’t be complete without a surfeit of sweet treats, you can plump (no pun intended) for a tour of handcrafted chocolate and Champagne including peach tea dark chocolate bonbons with Mansard Tradition de Grande Cuvée NV. Elsewhere, for the even-sweeter-toothed lady in red, there’s a decadent Valentine’s buffet including a series of red desserts including almond and raspberry panna cotta, passion fruit and raspberry prestige, strawberry mille-feuille and wild berry mousse with white chocolate. Alternatively, if you’re sick of the whole hollow spectacle, fight back in The Backyard: anyone who lands their arrow on the heart covering Cupid’s chubby little behind gets their first drink on the house.
