Bank On It / Hg2 MUST-STAY

The Southbank Centre is one of our favourite places to hang out in London – particularly during the summer, when a stand outside serves jugs of Pimm’s so potent you’re in danger of veering dangerously close to the water – but now we’ve got even more of a reason to while away the hours beside the Thames. Enter a pop-up hotel room atop the Queen Elizabeth Hall building, the winning entry in a design contest called A Room for London; conceived by London-based David Kohn Architects and artist Fiona Banna, the pop-up hotel room is designed in the shape of a boat and has been commissioned by leading cultural organisations Living Architecture and Artangel for the London 2010 Festival. As you can imagine, the views from inside will be pretty damn special and a flag will be raised to signal occupation. Guests will be able to spend a night in the room from January to December 2012; bookings will open on 8th December 2011.
