Heard It On The Grapevin / NEWS HUNGRY

Hotel Du Vin is a chain of hotels we wholeheartedly believe in; celebrating quintessential Brit style, each boutique outpost celebrates its region by harnessing homegrown produce in its restaurants and local designers throughout its interiors. As of yet, the chain has resisted the urge to open anything in London, but Bistro du Vin Clerkenwell will change all that when it opens on 8th April in E1. Housed in a meticulously restored Victorian townhouse on St. John Street, the property will also be the company’s first stand-alone bistro with a simple premise of offering hearty comfort food classics together with a delectable wine list. And with Smithfield Market found just a stone’s throw away, diners can expect only the best meat, fish and cheese on the menu. Heck, there’ll even be a ‘shop window’ to showcase prime cuts of the finest Scottish, British and Irish beef before an audience of salivating carnivores. Staying true to its roots, the Bistro will also have a strong emphasis on wine with a cellar that houses over 500 bins. The interiors, meanwhile, are New England chic, with chalky greys and Farrow & Ball blues on the walls, dark wood underfoot and original fireplaces stacked with bottles and dried hops. Patrons will be able to choose between eating at the pewter-topped bar (to be the longest dining bar in London with space for 30 guests), a glass-walled chef’s table and a 14-seater private dining room. And with the Bistro open all day – for breakfast, brunch, lunch, afternoon tea, dinner and night caps – Bistro du Vin is sure to become a neighbourhood favourite. We can’t wait for our reservation.
