Golden Tickets / Hg2 MUST-EAT

Gourmands across the globe are wondering where the heck to get their foodie fix now it has been announced El Bulli (voted the world’s best restaurant a total of five times) will be shutting shop for good in June 2012. And the answer’s simple, with the opening of Albert and Ferran Adrià’s new eatery and cocktail bar in Barcelona. Called Tickets and 41 Degrees, respectively, the two venues provide the perfect playgrounds in which the renowned brothers can continue to dazzle and amaze with their signature culinary prowess. This time round, however, the restaurant will eschew El Bulli’s lottery-style reservation system in favour of a more normal booking model to make it accessible to all. Inside are surprisingly casual prices matched by even more casual surroundings – the whole place is divided up into six different spaces, with the décor a rustic homage to the bite-sized way of eating and its history – while the menu is tapas with one hell of a twist. The bar, meanwhile, hopes to introduce mixology to a country that relies on gin tonica to take the edge off; “There are maybe five cocktail bars in all of Barcelona that do it right,” Albert said, “and we want to change that.” We don’t doubt that the brothers will succeed, with normal cocktails listed at the time of launch (each priced at €12) but a blank page at the end of the menu to introduce more inventive varieties once the place gets off the ground. And if the bothers’ past is anything to go by, the world’s drinkers won’t be disappointed.
