Fine Dining At The End Of The World / Hg2 RESTAURANT REVIEW

There’s a part of Chelsea that seems like a black hole – maybe aptly named World’s End – and nearly every venture that opens up here seems to slide into the abyss, but maybe we’ve found an exception: Medlar. It is the product of a collaboration of two friends who know the world of fine dining inside out – Joe Mercer Nairne,  an Old Etonian alumni of the Gordon Ramsay empire, and David O’Connor, ex- maitre’d of Chez Bruce – who have brought their own brand of fine Modern British cooking to the King’s Road. The food is superb – the crab raviolo was light and delicious, while the under-blade fillet with persillade snails and chips was perfectly cooked. The seemingly complex menu is bursting with intense flavour and complemented perfectly by an in-depth wine list. The intimate dining room is as elegant as the food. The grey linen walls, deep green banquettes and restrained lighting allows diners to concentrate on the food itself  without being too formal and the service is just so. They are still in their soft launch phase, so the prices are a steal – three courses for £30 for dinner and three courses for £20 for lunch.
