Pop Goes Benares / Hg2 MUST-EAT

One of London‘s most famous Indian restaurants, Benares, is getting so big for its boots its opening a pop-up in Soho. And with Atul Kochhar’s famed Indian fare on its mouthwatering menu, that’s an entirely good thing. Running from 4th-28th May, the pop-up will be hosted inside Meza at 100 Wardour Street; during the four-week takeover, Meza’s modern grill menu will be replaced by some of Atul’s signature dishes, as well as some completely new plates whipped up especially for the occasion. Based around sharing platters and Indian street food, dishes will include Rajasthani crisp orka with harrisa mayonnaise, Goan goat koftas with lavender and peanut honey and Kashmiri-style lamb Roganjosh with potato and ginger cakes. And it’s not only the menu that’s being given an overhaul, either; the interiors will be transformed, too, with silk-coloured drapes and moody lighting affording diners an authentic taste of the exotic. Atul says; “Doing a pop-up restaurant at Meza is an exciting opportunity. I have always liked the buzz of Soho and hope we, at Benares, will add to its amazing food culture.” We’ll certainly raise a Cobra to that.
