Quite The Catch / Hg2 OPENING OF THE WEEK

Famed Italian chef Massimo Riccioli – from renowned La Rosetta in Rome, no less – has finally thrown open the doors to his much-hyped London restaurant, and it’s not a moment too soon. Called Massimo Restaurant & Oyster Bar, the 100-cover space is found between Trafalgar Square and Embankment on Northumberland Avenue and incorporates a dining area, oyster and crustacean bar, and private dining room. The interiors are afforded a striking aesthetic thanks to David Collins Studio, with fabulous Victorian/Mediterranean influences throughout; think dark woods, marble columns and crisp, white-clothed tables. As you’d expect of somewhere with a dedicated oyster/crustacean bar, the menu is based entirely around fish (though there is a selection of seasonal meat and vegetarian options, should scaly foodstuffs not be your thing); stand-out dishes include oysters (naturally), mixed seafood crudo and spaghetti with red prawns, lemon and capers. And with everything washed down with a crisp glass of white, we couldn’t think of anything more summery to chow down on in light of London‘s recent good weather. Get it while it’s hot, as they say.
