Bloodthirsty types are sinking their teeth into Brasa, a new grill and steakhouse on Fulham Road. What was once a run-of-the-mill chain pub next to Fulham Broadway Tube has now been converted into something of a dining destination courtesy of owner Brenhan Magee, with a downstairs pub and grill for those who don’t know any better and an upstairs restaurant for those who do. It’s more dates than mates here, with dim lighting, dark décor and a mouthwatering menu of Brit food cooked on an oversized grill imported from Spain. ‘Starters’ are made up of sharing plates – bang-on trend, incidentally – with dishes such as smoked ham hock and rabbit with bacon and sour dough toast; mains, meanwhile, are significantly heavier and incorporate steaks and the like cooked over coals. A side of beef dripping-cooked chips comes highly recommended. And so while those who aren’t into their food can watch the footie on the screens downstairs, more discerning diners can come here and indulge in hearty, wholesome food in refreshingly unpretentious surroundings.
