Opened late last month on the King’s Road is The Jam Tree, the second outpost of the hugely-popular gastro-pub in Kensington. Offering the same Sloane style and Colonial-inspired food as its older sibling, The Jam Tree boasts eclectic interiors of mismatched furniture and a large al fresco seating area that is just perfect for long, boozy lunches in the sunshine with close chums. While propping up the copper-topped bar has become a popular pastime with a posh posse of regulars – a standout is the Jam Mojito, made from strawberry/raspberry/blackcurrant jam and blended with rum, ice and mint – it is the mouthwatering menu we’ve been hearing so much about; headed up by executive chef James Browne, the menu is Brit fare at its boldest with exotic influences from Malaysia, South Africa and India. Sample dishes include curried Cornish crab samosas with cucumber raita for starter, Jamaican chicken curry with friend plantain, rice and peas for main, and treacle tart with cream and white chocolate ice-cream for dessert. During the summer, James will also host a barbecue outside for a lipsmackingly good array of Asian and Caribbean street food; the perfect way to soak up one too many pints! We can’t wait to get down there and check it out.
