Colombian Cool / REVIEW PREVIEW

Hotel de la Opera, Calle 10, No. 5-72, La Candelaria
Bogota‘s Hotel de la Opera is wonderfully luxurious without any faux-European pretensions, and the spectacular view of Cathedral Prima ensures this hotel always rates highly in the Colombian capital. The only downside to staying here is that it’ll be hard to tear yourself away from its cool confines. A supreme hotel provides more than just shelter and can define a whole visit—and Hotel de la Opera certainly does that. This Candelaria gem exudes character, refinement and a little cultural eccentricity throughout its warm yellow rooms and delicately-engraved furniture. The beds are plush and the bathrooms offer spacious bathtubs. There are two houses—one colonial, and the other republican—uniting two distinct styles. And while most of the 42 rooms maintain non-ostentatious elegance, the seventh floor provides an all-white haven for those who revel in excess. We certainly do.
