Bel Of The Ball / Hg2 MUST-STAY

As if we needed more of an excuse to jet to Los Angeles this summer, the Dorchester Collection has just announced that Hotel Bel-Air will reopen in October after a two-year refurb. A collaborative effort between two renowned design teams – Alexandra Champalimaud and the Rockwell Group – the shiny new stay retains its pink-hued Spanish colonial architecture while updating its 1930s, 40s and 50s aesthetic for a new generation of guests. 12 new accommodations have been added to the property, making for a grand total of 103 rooms and suites, while a whole new structure makes room for a new bell tower, fitness studio, three loft-style guestrooms and a 4,134-square-foot spa by La Prairie. The hotel’s dining and drinking, meanwhile, will be overseen by culinary superstar Wolfgang Puck with a restaurant that serves up modern Californian cuisine with European and Mediterranean influences. And for those who had a soft spot for the swans that used to glide about in the lake before Bel-Air shut shop, fear not; they have remained during the entirety of the restoration, and new circulation pumps will provide them with even clearer water to, er, swan about in.
