Adios, elBulli / NEWS HUNGRY

elBulli, the three Michelin-starred restaurant headed up by experimental chef Ferran Adrià, closes today after more than 20 years of pushing the envelope. To reopen in 2014 as a non-profit ‘foundation of avant-garde gastronomy’, the culinary whizz will now focus his attention on Barcelona-based tapas bar, Tickets (read about it here). Voted the world’s best restaurant no less than five times, elBulli — located in Catalonia, Spain — certainly made its mark on the world with a menu that altered diners’ perceptions of food and engaged their imaginations (the deconstructed omelette was a particular favourite). Adios, elBulli — you’ll be missed.
