Hg2 were there for another event that was part of London Cocktail Week. The dandies at Hendrick’s Gin were in Monmouth Street, Covent Garden to open their pop-up shop to the public.

Hendrick’s Unusual Umbrella Emporium runs from 12-15 October and is the Scottish gin makers celebration of the oft ignored and much twirled cocktail umbrella. Hendrick’s boldly claim the time has come around again to see the humble cocktail umbrella regain its rightful place among a good bartender’s accouterments.

The Unusual Umbrella Emporium is a bar cum museum in the heart of central London. From brollies for dogs to parasols for smoking pipes, the Emporium will showcase an array of delightfully peculiar umbrellas alongside a selection of cocktails and cocktail umbrellas designed especially for the occasion by the top bartenders in the UK.

Cocktail designs come from:

Visitors to the Umbrella Emporium throughout the week will be invited to showcase their artistic ability and flair by creating their own cocktail umbrella design – the best of which will go into production.  Participants will be rewarded for such endeavours with a refreshing Hendrick’s Gin and Tonic.

  1. COINCIDENCES. I have just returned from working at The Jackson Hole Wildlife Film Festival in Wyoming USA and on my return I stayed in Park City. From my balcony there was a “Hendricks” umbrella outside Maxwell’s Restaurant. I obviously took a picture for my (‘living-together-apart’) partner Judith Hendrick and two step-daughters Josie and Eve Hendrick. I had a takeaway Italian meal from the restaurant as my only grandson is Maxwell. On my return through customs there was a promotional display of Hendrick’s Gin and a 1 litre bottle for the Hendricks is now in the Hendricks drinks cabinet. Best regards, Martin Hammond, Hemel Hempstead, Hertfordshire & Crouch End, London.
