One of the most powerful yet poignant pictures from Day 12 of the Occupy Wall Street protest in New York.

This picture was taken by New York writer and photographer David Shankbone in Zuccotti Park.

David spoke to Hg2 exclusively about the image: “Over the last 20 years US culture has been shaped by self-absorption and selfishness. In that time, certain segments of our society took advantage of our self-absorption and enacted laws that have hurt everyday people. I think the man holding this sign exemplifies the early spirit of an awakening. People aren’t going to just use social networking to talk about football or that b**** at work; they are now going to use it to take to the streets for change and to figure out what the hell has been going on.”

Strong words from David and let’s hope Occupy Wall Street is part of that catalyst for change!
