Hotel Ritz – one of the highest-profile luxury hotels in Paris – is to close for more than two years for renovation work.

The five-star hotel, which is owned by Egyptian businessman Mohamed Al Fayed, has not had a major refit since 1979. Each of the 160 rooms will be enhanced from next summer and the work is expected to take 27 months.

For fans of the Paris luxury hotel that’s seen famous guests like Charlie Chaplin, Ernest Hemingway and Coco Chanel through its doors, here’s some images to remember those classic times:
